What do Frank Sinatra, Jay-Z, & Alicia Keys have in common? Their love for New York. Last weekend I traded the warm Miami weather for a 48-hour visit to the city that never sleeps. Although not new to the concrete jungle it was my first time experiencing it as an adult.
Originally, the plan was to attend the Meadows Festival but as a seasoned festival-goer their lack of organization followed by a double cancellation of The Weeknd (first a headliner, then placed in a lower slot) definitely made me re-think spending time there as I realized I’ve never actually seen the city outside visits to my family as a child.
So what to do in 48 hrs? Simple, hop on the subway and make your way to as many tourist destinations as you can while tying in some great restaurants and bars along the way. I won’t go through the tourist areas as everyone knows what they are however I will share two of my favorite places from my trip.
If you believe in Brunch over everything, Sons of Essex Ain’t to Proud to Brunch (#A2P2Brunch) party on Saturday is a must if you like good food, drinks, and old school hip hop. Get there around 1/1:30 PM before the place gets packed and try to be seated near the dance floor. Get their mac & cheese omelet & sangria the flavors in both are simply mindblowing!
As a lover of craft cocktails especially ones that are gin based discovering the Gin Parlour at the InterContinental New York Barclay was absolute perfection. Order the Quintessential G&T in which they brew their own tonic water and the contents change with the season, with my visit there was rosemary and grapes. If you don’t like gin not to fear they have other amazing craft cocktails as well!
Although my visit was literally a New York minute, the city has definitely inspired me with all its fashion, events, etc. and I can’t wait to take an extended trip there. Until next time…
xo Sincerely Shanti

LOL! While in battery park there was a guy just selling them in the open along with Louis Vuitton. Gone are the days of Canal St!
