Friendsgiving Fun

November 12, 2016

Where has the year gone?! It’s crazy to believe we’re just two weeks away from Thanksgiving!  Although a holiday mostly reserved for spending time with your family; myself like most others are equally grateful for their friends & colleagues. So how do you get the best of both worlds? Easy, host a Friendsgiving dinner either the Wednesday before or the Friday after Thanksgiving.

This is one of my favorite holidays especially since over the years a friend of mine & her mom would host this huge feast for like 30-40 of us. There’s a variety of ways to host Friendsgiving ranging from preparing an entire feast for your friends or arranging a potluck (just be sure to not have duplicates of certain dishes!).

Here are some ways to ensure you’re the host/hostess with the mostest this Friendsgiving!

#1)  Drinks Simplified

How many times have you tried to play bartender at a gathering and ended up with the least desirable beverage in the world?  RSVP Skinnies takes away the guessing game with their 4 varieties of classic cocktail mixer packets that are super simple to make, taste amazing and have zero calories.  You can have guests BYOB and provide a basic bar setup with the box of packets (there’s 6 in each) so they can have the fun of mixing their own cocktails. This will definitely be a hit for your friends so to avoid a wait or if you know you’re friends won’t tap into their inner mixologist use the recipe below and make carafes of the cocktails in advance.

9 oz.  of  Vodka, Rum, Gin or Tequila

24 oz. or 3 cups of water

6 Skinnies Packets (my favorite is the London Gimlet!)

Stir ingredients together and place in an ice tub with cute little labels as you won’t want to shake this large format recipe with ice or it will be watery by the time guests arrive & consume.  The carafe needs to be at least 33 3/4 oz. so the Bormioli Rocco Misura Carafe is perfect for this and is $4.99 here or at your local Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

You can purchase these awesome RSVP Skinnies cocktail mixers here .

#2) Capture the Memories

Photos from your phone and snapchat filters are great but tangible photos are even better! Plus in my opinion throw in a great filter and those little photo printouts make a dope Instagram/Snapchat posts (Make a fun hashtag for the night!).  I’m absolutely in love with the Instax Mini cameras by Fujifilm and they come in a variety of colors! Get a cool scrapbook along with some markers/pens from your local craft store and have your friends write fun quotes from the night or create a photo wall so you can always look back on the memories.

#3) Entertainment & Décor

To differentiate from your normal gathering go all out with the décor. Especially since you can find most Fall items are now 50% off at places like Michael’s, etc. I’m not saying be as intricate as the tablescape above (this was one of the booths I stopped by at BizBash 2016) but just make the night special for you & your friends! Disconnect from the social world and play some games outside of flip cup & beer pong like Cards Against Humanity, Utter Nonsense, & That’s What She Said you’ll be too busy dying of laughter to remember your phone.  Last but certainly not least the music is what’s going to tie your Friendsgiving festivities together. Instead of using the typical radio or self-curated playlist check out Spotify’s new Party genre. They feature a number of playlists that transition and mix the next song as if you had a DJ there. Even better if one of your friends are a DJ having them create the perfect mix for the occasion.

Sincerely Shanti xo
